As a gynaecological oncologist, I am passionate in ensuring that women have the best chance of survival possible from gynaecological cancers.
This starts from protecting women against the disease in the first instance by giving them an awareness of lifestyle factors that increase the risk of gynaecological cancer. To achieve this, I often write articles for the lay press and have provided an expert view for radio and television programs. If cancer is detected early, it is completely curable in the majority of cases. It is important therefore that women are aware of symptoms of cancer and educating the lay public and GPs is very much part of my role. If women do develop cancer, I work with a multidisciplinary team of experts to ensure that they receive the best treatment available to maximise their chances of cure. This is what my service is about.
